We are pleased to report that a bid that was submitted to the Sport England "Inspired Facilities" funding initiative for floodlighting to tennis courts 4567 has been successful. We have been awarded a grant of £50,000 to enable us to install floodlights to the courts and also to assist with upgrading our electrical plant in order to comply with current requirements.

It was particularly satisfying to achieve this award as the initiative was significantly oversubscribed with applications and we are just one of 10 projects throughout the country that have been selected for early advance approval. (The planned date for notifying succesful applicants was early January).

The work is expected to be completed by end of March 2012 and the addition of four floodlit courts will greatly enhance playing opportunities for members and also give greater scope for our coaching programmme in the winter months.

As a result of the installation, the floodlighting on courts 10/11 will no longer be used as there is not the electric supply capacity at the club to be able to operate what would effectively be 12 floodlit courts (includes the 4 indoor).

However, it is unlikely that these lights will be missed as they were in need of repair for some time and as the system was obsolete we were unable to do anything with them.
